Daybook, Thursday April 8th

outside my window . . . it’s a hot gorgeous day but cold weather is coming so the wind is kicking up

in the kitchen . . .  I’m getting ready to order pizza.  Ugh!  I’m not doing too well in the kitchen.  It seems I can either school well or cook well but to do them both well at the same time seems to elude me.

around the house . . .  It’s quiet.  Everyone is up at the barn doing evening chores

on my iPod . . . I’ve been listening to Bach’s St. Matthew’s Passion

from our studies . . . we have begun to study American History.  I love Sonlight and am looking forward to all we will be learning.

thinking about . . .  walking with the Spirit and being sensitive to his leading.

listening to. . . a turkey gobbling in the woods near the house

thankful for. . .the Lord’s longsuffering

pondering the words . . . “Don’t be too easily convinced that God really wants you to do all sorts of work you needn’t do. Each must do his duty ‘in that state of life to which God has called him.’ Remember that a belief in the virtues of doing for doing’s sake is characteristically feminine, characteristically American, and characteristically modern: so that three veils may divide you from the correct view! There can be intemperance in work just as in drink. What feels like zeal may be only fidgets or even the flattering of one’s self-importance. As MacDonald says, ‘In holy things may be unholy greed!’ And by doing what ‘one’s station and its duties’ does not demand, one can make oneself less fit for the duties it does demand and so commit some injustice. Just you give Mary a chance as well as Martha!”  C.S. Lewis, Letters to An American Lady

to foster rhythm and beauty . . . I’ve been playing St. Matthew’s passion during breakfast

one of my favorite things . . .  My time with the Lord in the morning. I’ve been neglecting it terribly for a long time and lately I’ve gotten back to it.  I don’t know why I let it slid…it is such a precious time.

milestones in the past week . . . can't think of any

a few plans for the upcoming week . . . we have some birthdays coming up so I need to plan parties.  Also with the warm weather, we need to go up in the attic and dig out the warm weather clothes.
